WHEN YOU VISIT

First Time Visitors will be given a brief tour of the facility upon arrival as well as a floor plan.

The Collection is focused on Sumner County and Middle Tennessee.  All statewide Tennessee census indexes and many other statewide books are in the collection.  There are books and microfilms on surrounding counties and some surrounding states with an emphasis on North Carolina and Virginia.  A good starting point is to locate your family in the published census books at the INDEX COUNTER where other helpful resource materials are kept.

Research Assistance is limited since the facility has only two employees.  Ann Ross and Becky Settle, will assist you in locating materials and are pleased to help you with research when time permits.  The Archives reserves the right to schedule appointments when large volumes of materials are requested for viewing or copying. Please note there is no every name index or database for us to search. Each type of document (deeds, loose lawsuits, will, etc.) has its own index. You will need to search each individual index for your ancestor.

Parking all day is free. There is plenty of parking in the lot next to the Archives. Entrance to the lot is accessible off South Boyers Street. Parking in front of our building is two-hour parking only. The Archives does not give parking passes to park on the street.
