A special Ad Hoc Judicial Candidate Review Committee composed of County Commissioners Paul Goode, Leslie Schell, Chris Taylor and Baker Ring, Sumner County Bar Association Members, Tip Martin, Gary Williams and Beth Garrison and Ex Officio members, Sumner County Bar Association President Lindsey Ralston and Sumner County Law Director Leah May Dennen will interview the applicants for the Juvenile Judge Position being vacated by the December 29, 2017 retirement of Judge Barry Brown.
A short organizational meeting of the Ad Hoc Judicial Candidate Review Committee is hereby called for 6:00 pm on Thursday, September 28, 2017 (local time) in Room 112 of the Sumner County Administration Building, 355 North Belvedere Drive, Gallatin, TN 37066 to determine the interview process.
A lengthier meeting of the Ad Hoc Judicial Candidate Review Committee is called for Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 6:00 pm (local time) in Room 112 of the Sumner County Administration Building, 355 North Belvedere Drive, Gallatin, TN 37066 to conduct candidate interviews.

THERE WILL BE A PUBLIC HEARING AT THE SUMNER COUNTY COMMISSIONER’S MEETING ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2017, AT 7:00 P. M. THIS MEETING SHALL BE HELD AT THE SUMNER COUNTY ADMINISTRATION BUILDING IN THE COUNTY COMMISSION CHAMBERS, LOCATED AT 355 NORTH BELVEDERE DRIVE, GALLATIN, TENNESSEE.
THIS MEETING WILL BE TO DISCUSS THE POTENTIAL ADOPTION OF AN SP ZONING DISTRICT TO AMEND THE EXISTING INDUSTRIAL ZONING DISTRICT SECTION OF THE SUMNER COUNTY ZONING RESOLUTION. THIS MEETING FOLLOWS SEVERAL WORK STUDIES PERFORMED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION AND APPROVED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION ON JULY 25, 2017.

SUMNER COUNTY JUVENILE JUDGE VACANCY NOTICE
NOTICE SUMNER COUNTY JUVENILE JUDGE VACANCY NOTICE AND APPLICATION PROCESS
Due to the announced retirement of Judge Barry Brown, the Sumner County Commission is requesting applications from interested qualified individuals seeking to be appointed to fill the interim juvenile judicial position, which will be created by Judge Brown departure on December 29, 2017.
Those interested must submit a letter detailing their request to be considered along with a copy of their resume’ to Law Director Leah May Dennen at 355 North Belvedere Drive, Room 303, Gallatin, TN 37066. Application packets are due no later than 1:00 p.m. (local time) September 15, 2017.
The interim judge should be prepared to take office January 1, 2018. The position will be included on the ballots in May and August 2018.

The process will be as follows:
County Legislative Committee Chairman, Paul R. Goode will appoint four (4) County Commissioners to serve on a judicial ad hoc committee in conjunction with (3) three attorneys selected by the Sumner County Bar Association. The total committee will consist of (10) ten people including the (7) seven voting members listed above and, County Attorney Leah May Dennen, County Commission Chairman Scott Langford and Bar Association President-Elect Lindsey Ralston as non-voting ex-officio members.
For those seeking the interim appointment, they must submit a letter of interest including their resume’ to Ms. Dennen’s office at 355 North Belvedere Drive, Room 303, Gallatin, TN 37066. Application packets are due no later than 1:00 p.m. (local time) September 15, 2017.
Commission Legislative Chairman Paul R. Goode will subsequently set two judicial ad hoc meetings. The first meeting shall be called after the September 15th deadline, followed by a second meeting by the first week in October. The second meeting will include interviews of the submitted applicants. It is anticipated a recommendation by vote will come from this meeting but if necessary a third meeting will take place within ten days.
The recommendation will be presented from the County Legislative Committee to the full commission at the October regularly scheduled meeting, Monday, October 16th, 2017.
By Tennessee law, nominations can also come from the commission floor during this meeting.
The interim judge should be prepared to take office January 1, 2018. This judge’s seat will be on the election ballot in May and August 2018.
